• The 1905 Kangra Earthquake: When a catastrophic earthquake struck the Kangra region in April 1905, destroying thousands of structures including the nearby town buildings, the main stone edifice of St. John in the Wilderness survived with minimal damage. The original bell tower collapsed during the quake, and a replacement bell cast in England by Mears & Stainbank was re-installed in 1915.
