History & Legend

According to local folklore, the temple's origins trace back to a sage who, while wandering through the forests of Palampur, discovered a sacred idol of Jakhni Mata after the goddess appeared to him in a dream. He built a shrine at the exact spot where the idol was found, and devotees have worshipped there ever since. Over the centuries, the temple has undergone several renovations while retaining its traditional character.
